What is the difference between data entry and 10 key entry?

An application i'm filling out asks, "do you know 10 keys and data entry?" aren't they the same?

What is the difference between data entry and 10 key entry?
10 key refers to a 10 key adding machine, but can also apply to your numeric keypad (the one on the right) of your typical keyboard. Notice the little "bump" on the number 5? That is the Home position for numeric entry. You would put your middle finger on the 5, index finger on the 4 and ring finger on the 6 - for right handers.

Data Entry - means entering data into a database form (usually consists of edit boxes for text and dates and check boxes; but could also include other kinds of "fields")

Of course speed and accuracy are what makes a good data entry person. This comes from practice.
Reply:one is numerical
Reply:No.

Reverse Key or Reverse 10-key in data entry refers to the use of numbers within the letter keys. The original keypunch machines and early data entry terminals used what is now considered reverse key. The nine on the top row is the 0, U the 1, I the 2, O the 3, J the 4, K the 5, L the 6, M the 7, the command key is the 8 and the period key is the 9. To change from alpha to numerical the keyer holds down the shift key. Actually data entry is much easier with reverse key as it eliminates the transition from alpha keys to the numeric keypad.

Data entry is the act of keying in data.

Does anyone know where an online Data Entry job is available? I've seen a few sites where I can get a Data Entry job at home with, but I'm just not sure which ones are scams and which aren't. So can anyone here recommend a good, legitimate site where I can get a Data Entry job?

Reply:The work from home jobs that aren't scams actually require work on your part - and if you're in need of money soon then you're likely to be sorely disappointed in any of those as well. Most of the legit opportunities out there take time to build - so if someone makes an outrageous claim of income it probably isn't true ( and those that are true sure didn't make that kind of money when they first began ).

Time %26amp; effort required - but do your own research on what is best for you, don't take the advice of myself and others as gospel from this type of public website.

http://working-from-home-ireland.blogspo...

I have other ideas that may help - one of them is an online opportunity but another is one that will require a little effort to market yourself - try some data entry for local businesses, many of them don't have the time to do it in-house and will gladly pay someone else to do it. Professionals are a good place to start, lawyers, doctors, chiropractors, etc - they need their "in-house" folks doing other things rather than busy work.

What company do you recommend getting data entry?

I had searched in online. Many Companies are asking upfront fees. I don't know whether pay to them or not. I think it is a scam. I don't beleive in that sites. If do you know any data entry company which doesn't ask for upfront fees and give the job means please mention here. Any way if there is genuine data entry company by taking fees means please mention here. When you are mentioning here please mail me the the earnings from that data entry company

What company do you recommend getting data entry?
You are correct. Which ever companies asked for upfront fees means definitely they are scammers. There are some

data entry companies which they give you job without taking any fees from you. Any way for doing data entry jobs without

You would be better off starting your own business. Check with former employers or local small business to see if they have any date entry work you could do at home.

What are the duties of a Data Entry Clerk? And about how long does it take to be schooled for this job?

I am interested in classes to get a job as a Data Entry Clerk, but want to know more about the job itself.

What are the duties of a Data Entry Clerk? And about how long does it take to be schooled for this job?
The duties are entering data into a computer.

I did this for a summer when I was in college. It took about ten minutes to teach me what to do -- maybe five.
Reply:I think it differs according to the school system you are in. The data clerk at our school does all the data entry into our networked program - i.e. daily attentence for the whole school. She is the only person able to go back and change absences to excused, unexcuse, etc... She also prints all report cards from this program and works on class rosters as well as scheduling for our middle schoolers. I'm not sure what type of degree, if any is needed; but training in whatever program you would be utilizing would be a must.

Hope the helps! Good luck! =o)
Reply:I don't think you need special classes for this. Just be a fast and very accurate typer. Know 10-key (number keypad) by touch that you don't have to look down to input the numbers.
Reply:it basically involves enetering data in various systems for various needs

Once I found out these sites were legitimate, I started adding referrals. For every person you refer, on 2 of the sites, you get 20% of what they earn. And for every person that one of your referrals refer you get 10% on one site and 5% on the other. In time--this could be a great source of income--making money while other people are in a sense, working for you.

There is another site that has a 3 level referral system. With this additional 3rd level, you could build a huge downline. If you refer 10 people and they each refer 2 more people, you’ll have 10 first level referrals and 20 second level referrals. Lets say those second level referrals also refer just 2 people each. You’ll have 40 third level referrals. That’s 70 people in your down line just for referring 10!! This site has great potential!!

And by the way--never join a work at home program that wants you to pay up front. If they were making that much money, they wouldn't need to charge you.

Reply:why not just put a big sign up that reads "hello scammers, please scam me". Sorry, but Im going to be honest with you wether you believe me or not, there is no such thing as data entry jobs online, there just isnt. You would have to work for a company first, and have them send you home to do the work, this is almost impossible to do. My cousin does it. She had to work for the company first (so look for data entry jobs on career builder or in your newspaper if thats what you want to do) and then you would have to wait for them to have money problems so they could send you home like they did with my cousin to safe on electricity and office space. Trust me, I type 90 wpm so I was looking for these for years. They are ALL scams. I will tell you how to make money online, but you can choose to believe me or not, thats your choice. Companies dont hire people to do data entry at home, because then they would just hire their friends and nobody would know that they hired their friends because their friends would be hidden from the people at work because they would be in their own homes. Who wouldnt want to do data entry at home? Why would they hire you over their friends or people they know? Trust me, there is no data entry jobs. Everything you hear about it is a scam. Most people choose not to believe me and thats why they continue to get scammed. Heres a list of ways I personally make money online and I have tried everything out there so these are the best ways to make money online.

1.sell domains or make money by parking them (parking is when you take a domain name and let somebody put ads on it so you can get paid when people click on the ads, but its not a website and you dont have to put the ads on yourself, a parking company does that and its free to park)

2.do affiliate marketing, refer people to companies like yahoo and google services and get paid by yahoo and google and companies like that.

3. day trade stocks (not a good time to do this with usa stocks though)

4.sell things (with ebay going downhill, this is getting harder to do but I still sell things on craigslist and do affiliate marketing there too)

5.make websites and put adsense ads on them so you can get paid when people click on the ads, this is kind of like affiliate marketing.

6.sell website hosting, people need to host their websites somewhere, so make simple websites and offer them free to people as long as they host with you, then they will pay you monthly fees every month to host their websites so you keep building your income each month if you keep them as members

Reply:I have tried so many of these work at home opportunities (and tons of money out the window).

The bad news is that there are many, many companies out there that are complete scams eagerly waiting to get your money. The good news is that there are home based businesses out there that are genuinely legitimate.

There are two ways to work at home:

1 - A work at home job - these are usually hard to get and pay very little. You are still working for someone else and will only make what they want you to make. It is a job so there will be no up front costs.

2. A home based business. If you can find the right one, you will reap the rewards forever. This is your business just like a brick and mortar business but at a fraction of the cost. You will usually have to pay an upfront costs ($10-$500). There is usually a monthly fee to cover websites or other company overhead. Which is very minimal compared to if you were to have a brick and mortar business (electric, sewer, inventory, etc.). There are no limits to the amount of money that you can make and the business is usually willable and sellable!

After trying and trying I finally decided on Answer #2. It seems like I made a career out of failing at home based businesses before I found the right one. I enjoy helping people make informed decisions about working at home.

Feel free to email me and we can discuss this further (I promise I won't try to sell you anything : )
Reply:its very very difficult to make a decent income while doing data entry from home, and you're unlikely to get the names of genuine employers in a public place like this.

I tried over 18 home businesses in the course of 3 years so please forgive the length of this post but you will find it very informative. Learn from my mistakes! Also make sure to read all the way to the bottom because I have included a list of the top 10 work at home scams. I am a mother of two little girls who are actually tugging on my arm as I write this so I will try to be brief. Many people are looking for work from home companies. All the scams definitely create a big problem but also, there is a problem of people misunderstanding the difference between work from home "jobs" and work from home opportunities. There really are not work from home “jobs”. To get that you have to start working for a company in their offices first, then they MAY allow you to take the job home.

Most of the work from home opportunities that are legitimate offers are not an hourly pay type job. They are business opportunities that help you in starting your own business from your home. What you should do first is to decide if you are simply looking for an hourly rate type job or if you are looking for more of an opportunity for additional income such as what you would make in your own business being your own boss from home. Small home businesses have some small costs involved, less than $500 to start is reasonable and I would stay away from those wanting $1000-$5000. It doesn’t cost that much to start and run a home business so you shouldn’t pay it.

If you are coming across places that say free then I would RUN don’t walk the other way! They never are. I tried them many a times and 3 weeks later I had to buy this and 6 weeks later that. After 6 months these “free businesses” had cost me over $800 on average.

After trying 18 things I work about 18-25 hours per week for a National Medical Benefits Company. This is a nationally known and reputable home business which is what you need to make sure you are looking for. I have been with the company almost a year and a half now and I make over $3500 a month! In your first month, depending on how many hours you can work, I have seen people make anywhere from $500 to over $2500. And your income will increase each month because you get paid residual income as well.

The best part is they have 401(k), direct deposit, life insurance and a benefits package most of which you get from day one. In addition, there are no products, no hard selling or pushing, no cold calling, no home parties and no telemarketing! That was VERY important to me. I absolutely love working with them and I can't believe I am making what I am making and in so few hours per week. The neat thing is there are other people on your team that you work with so you are never alone. You have great team support and you get to know the other people on your team pretty well.

I was a bit apprehensive at first because I know a lot of companies are not legit but this company is the number one National Medical Benefits Company in the US. They are a member of the US Chamber of Commerce, and the National Association of Dental Plans and the owner of the company actually sits on the board of The Consumer Health Alliance to which we are also members. Also they were featured in “The New York Times”, “Wall Street Journal” “Time Magazine” “American Medical Review” and even in the May 2008 issue of “Parents Magazine”. Even “60 Minutes” did a big special on this home based business.

Even more then all this is they are accepted at over 100,000 retailers nationwide. These are fortune 500 companies like Sears, Target, K-mart, Rite Aid, CVS, Wal-mart, Publix and more. These companies would never work with a company that was anything less than reputable.

This scam encourages you to assemble toys, dolls, or other craft projects at home with the promise of high per-piece rates. All you have to do is pay a fee up-front for the starter kit... which includes instructions and parts. Sounds good? Well, once you finish assembling your first batch of crafts, you'll be told by the company that they "don't meet our specifications." No matter what you won’t get paid.

9. Medical Billing

In this scam, you pay $300-$900 for everything (supposedly) you need to start your own medical billing service at home. You're promised state-of-the-art medical billing software, as well as a list of potential clients in your area.

What you're not told is that most medical clinics process their own bills, or outsource the processing to firms, not individuals. Your software may not meet their specifications, and often the lists of "potential clients" are outdated or just plain wrong.

8. Email/Rebate Processing

This is a twist on the classic "envelope stuffing scam" (see #1 below). For a low price ($50?) you can become a "highly-paid" email processor working "from the comfort of your own home."

Now... what do you suppose an email processor does? If you have visions of forwarding or editing emails, forget it. What you get for your money are instructions on spamming the same ad you responded to in newsgroups and Web forums!

7. "A List of Companies Looking for Home workers!"

In this one, you pay a small fee for a list of companies looking for home workers just like you. The only problem is that the list is usually a generic list of companies, companies that don't take home workers, or companies that may have accepted home workers long, long ago.

6. "Just Call This 1-900 Number For More Information..."

Not much to say here. Don’t Call!

5. Typing At Home / Data Entry

Here's how it works: After sending the fee to the scammer for "more information," you receive a disk and printed information that tells you to place home typist ads and sell copies of the disk to the suckers who reply to you. Like #8, this scam tries to turn you into a scammer!

4. "Turn Your Computer Into a Money-Making Machine!"

Well, this one's at least half-true. To be completely true, it should read: "Turn your computer into a money-making machine... for scammers!"

This is much the same scam as #5, above. Once you pay your money, you'll be sent instructions on how to place ads and pull in suckers to "turn their computers into money-making machines."

3. Pyramid Schemes (this is NOT the same as Multi-Level Marketing MLM)

If you've heard of network marketing (like Amway, Mary Kay or Pampered Chef), then you know that there are legitimate MLM businesses based on agents selling products or services.

The problem arises when there is no legitimate product or service at all and it is all about finding new recruits and not only can you lose all your money, but you can be charged with fraud, too!

2. Chain Letters/Emails ("Make Money Fast")

They promise that all you have to do is send the email along plus some money by mail to the top names on the list, then add your name to the bottom... and one day you'll be a millionaire.

Actually, the only thing you might be one day is prosecuted for fraud. This is a classic pyramid scheme.

1. Envelope Stuffing

This is THE classic work-at-home scam. It's been around since the U.S. Depression of the 1920s and 1930s, and it's moved onto the Internet like a cockroach you just can't eliminate.

There are several variations, but here's a sample: Much like #5 and #4 above, you are promised to be paid $1-2 for every envelope you stuff. All you have to do is send money and you're guaranteed "up to 1,000 envelopes a week that you can stuff... with postage and address already affixed!"

When you send your money, you get a short manual with flyer templates you're supposed to put up around town, advertising yet another harebrained work-from-home scheme.

SO that’s the top 10.

Please beware of these scams. There are some legit home businesses out there so be careful. Look for companies in business over 10 years. Look for companies with a needed product or service, something you would be proud to represent. Look for companies that have a national reputation and are members of the US Chamber of Commerce.

Also, don't be hung up on the BBB either. Did you know, common misconception here, that the BBB is NOT a government regulated agency? That in fact, they are local independently owned franchises where anyone, who pays the right price, can be a member in “good standing”. This is true!

As for those of you who say…..”I want to work from home but I don’t want to have to pay for anything”. Well, that’s great! But it will never happen. Let’s be honest, there is no such thing as a free lunch. As we talked about above there is a difference between a job and a business. You should NEVER have to pay for a job….but again…chances of finding a home job are about 3%. At any rate, if it is a true honest home business you need to expect to pay….Mr. Walt Disney didn’t start the Disney empire “without paying for anything”. Neither did Mr. Sam Walton, owner of Wal-Mart.

I would think it would be tedious and boring. There are lots of better ways to make money for stay at home parents!

Are you good at crafts? Interested in buying and selling on the internet (not ebay necessarily)

How can I start a online data entry job?

I sit idle at home for whole day. Is it possible to earn money by starting online data entry? If yes, can anyone help me?

How can I start a online data entry job?
There are a few legitimate data entry companies but are not hiring and have large waiting lists (1-2yrs). The majority of data entry jobs you seen online are scams. A real company will want you to have skills (fast typing, 10 key), may want you to know excel, and will usually ask that you have high speed internet. Once in a long while you may found one online on a job website but it is rare.

One option is to freelance and bid for data entry jobs. However, you are bidding along with many people and often other countries-so you may have to bid really low just to get a job and/or project.

Another option is to offer data entry services to businesses in your area. It can be done, I know people who have done this but it is not easy to do.

If you go to my profile, there are some data entry companies listed for free on the website. But like I said, there is a waiting list. There are also other types of work at home jobs that you may want to look into and if they interest you, you can then apply (some may require a resume). The website is free and many of the companies listed do not ask for fees either.
Reply:Most of the online Data entry jobs are scams. You just lost money and time. Try these legal sites:

Reply:Not much data entry in food service.
Reply:There are few data entry jobs left any more, even in offices. The chances of finding one at home are very slim unless a former employer needs some work done and would hire you.

There are a lot of websites that claim to steer you to data entry jobs - they are pretty much all scams that will ask for a fee then not provide a job.
Reply:You can become an independent contractor, but you have to have experience in the field of data entry, because you're basically starting a business (which means you have to have all of the legal paperwork). Otherwise there is no such thing as work at home data entry.
Reply:this online jobs are all scams. try this it really works, your going to be making lots of money read this you won't regret doin it • Get rich PLEASE NOTE: please follow these directions exactly and $50,000 or more can be yours in 20 to 60 days. This program remains successful because of the honesty and integrity of the participants. Please continue its success by carefully adhering to the instructions. You will now become a part of the mail order business. In this business, your product is not solid and tangible, it's a service. You are in the business of developing a mailing list. Many large corporations are happy to pay big bucks for quality list. However, the money made from the mailing list is secondary to the income, which is made from people like you and me asking to be included to that list. Here are the four steps to success: STEP 1: Get 6 separate pieces of paper write the following on each piece of paper "PLEASE PUT ME ON YOUR MAILING LIST." Now get 6 us 1dollar bills and place ONE inside EACH of the six pieces of paper so the bill will not be seen through the envelope to prevent thievery. Next, place one paper in each of the 6 envelopes and seal them. MAKE SURE THERE ARE ENOUGH STAMPS ON YOUR ENVELOPES. You should now have 6 sealed envelopes, each with a piece of paper stating the above phrase your name and address and a $1.00 bill. What you are doing is creating a service. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY LEGAL! You are requesting a legitimate service and you are paying for it! Like most of us, I was a little skeptical and a little worried about the legal aspects of it all. So, I checked it out with the U.S. Post Office (1-800-725-2161) and they confirmed that it is indeed legal!!!!! Mail the six envelopes to the following addresses.

#1) M.W. Williams 52887 Mary Martin Dr. Chesterfield MI 48051

#2) Aaron Dorsey 839 Balls Bluff Road Leesburg, VA 20176

#3)William Henderson 15635 F.M. 2728, Terrell, TX 75161

#4) Francheska Freeman 119 Redbud Drive, Forney, TX 75126

#5) Lisa Franulovich 22900 Dracaea Ave, Moreno Valley, CA 92553

#6)Jessica Jimenez 320 Highland Ave, Kearny, NJ 07032

Now take the #1 name off the list that you see above, move the other names up (6 becomes 5, 5 becomes 4, 4 becomes 3, and add YOUR name as number 6 on the list. STEP 3: Change anything you need to but try to keep this article as original as possible. Now post your amended article to at least 200 news groups. ( I think there are 24,000 groups) All you need is 200, but remember, the more you post , the more money you make!** EVERYBODY AROUND THE WORLD CAN DO THIS BUT REMEMBER TO PUT ENOUGH STAMPS ON YOUR ENVELOPES!!!!** This is perfectly legal! If you have any doubts, refer to title 18 sec. 1302 %26amp; 1341 of the postal lottery laws. Keep a copy of these steps for your self and whenever you need money, you can use it again and again. PLEASE REMEMBER that this program remains successful because of the honesty and integrity of the participants and by carefully adhering to the directions. Look at it this way, if you are of integrity, the program will continue and the money that so many others have received will come your way. NOTE: You may want to retain every name and address sent to you, on either a computer or a hard copy and keep the notes people sent you. This verifies that you are truly providing a service. (Remember to wrap the $1 bill in the note to prevent mail theft.) So, as each post is downloaded and the directions carefully followed, six members will be reimbursed for their participation as a list developer with one dollar each. Your name will move up the list geometrically so that when your name reaches the #1 spot you will be receiving thousands of dollars in CASH!!!!! What an opportunity for only $6.00 ($1 for each of the six people listed above) Send it now, add your own name to the list and you're in business! DIRECTIONS: HOW TO POST TO NEWS GROUPS STEP 1: You do not need to retype this entire letter to do your own posting. Simply put your cursor at the beginning of this letter and drag your cursor to the bottom of this document, and select "copy" from the edit menu. This will copy the entire letter into the computer's memory. STEP 2: Open a blank notepad file and place your cursor at the top of the blank page. From the edit menu, select "paste." This will paste the copy of the letter into notepad so you can add your name to the list. STEP 3: Save your new notepad file as a .txt file. If you want to do your postings in different settings , you'll always have this file to come back to. STEP 4: Use Netscape and Internet Explorer and try searching for various news groups (on-line forums, message boards, chat sites, discussions.) STEP 5: Visit these message boards and post this article as a new message by highlighting the text of this letter and selecting "paste" from the edit menu. Fill in the subject, this will be the header that everyone sees as they scroll through the list of postings in a particular group, click the post message button. You're done with the first one! CONGRATULATIONS,…THAT'S IT! All you have to do is jump to different news groups and post away, after you get the hang of it, it will take 30 seconds for each newsgroup! **REMEMBER, THE MORE NEWSGROUPS YOU POST IN (MESSAGE BOARDS ETC.) THE MORE MONEY YOU WILL MAKE!! BUT YOU HAVE TO POST A MINIMUM OF 200. That's it! You will begin receiving money from around the world within days! You may eventually want to rent a P.O. Box due to the large amount of mail you will receive. If you wish to stay anonymous, you can invent a name to use as long as the postman will deliver it. **JUST MAKE SURE THE ADDRESS IS CORRECT** Let me break it down, say I receive only 5 replies, so then I made $5 with my name at #5 on the letter. Now each of the 5 persons who just sent me $1 made the MINIMUM 200 postings, each with my name at #4 and only 5 people respond to the original 5 people. That is another $25 for me. Now those 25 people make the MINIMUM 200 post with my name at number 3 and only 5 replies each, I will make $125. Now, those 125 people post the MINIMUM 200 postings with my name at #2 and only get 5 replies each, I will make an additional $626! Ok, now here's the fun part each of those 625 people post a MINIMUM 200 with my name at #1, I will receive $15,625!!! With an original investment of $6!!!! AMAZING!!!! . When your name is no longer on the list, you just take the latest postings in the news groups and send out another $6 to names on the list putting yourself at #6 and start posting again. Thousands of people are joining the internet each day and they are reading articles like these just as you are right now. So this can never be played out just keep it going and you can make tons of money too!!!! Please try it now and make big bucks in a few short weeks!!!!!!

What is data entry speed and how do you measure it?

Somewhere I found outthat data entry speed is KEYSTROKESD PER HOUR, which is measured using the formula= words per minute X 300. Is this true?

What is data entry speed and how do you measure it?
Actually, that is true if you assume that words are roughly 5 characters in length on average (there will be words with more characters and words with less ones). I consider my typing speed 'intermediate', and it's around 70 words per minute. Assuming that the average word is about 5 characters long, then my keystrokes = 70*6=420 characters per minute.

And for 1 hr, I'd have 420*60 = 21000 keystrokes.

Using your formula, I would have: 70*300 = 21000

Same thing. I guess it's a rough estimate, but is is a decent one.
