What are the duties of a Data Entry Clerk? And about how long does it take to be schooled for this job?

I am interested in classes to get a job as a Data Entry Clerk, but want to know more about the job itself.

What are the duties of a Data Entry Clerk? And about how long does it take to be schooled for this job?
The duties are entering data into a computer.

I did this for a summer when I was in college. It took about ten minutes to teach me what to do -- maybe five.
Reply:I think it differs according to the school system you are in. The data clerk at our school does all the data entry into our networked program - i.e. daily attentence for the whole school. She is the only person able to go back and change absences to excused, unexcuse, etc... She also prints all report cards from this program and works on class rosters as well as scheduling for our middle schoolers. I'm not sure what type of degree, if any is needed; but training in whatever program you would be utilizing would be a must.

Hope the helps! Good luck! =o)
Reply:I don't think you need special classes for this. Just be a fast and very accurate typer. Know 10-key (number keypad) by touch that you don't have to look down to input the numbers.
Reply:it basically involves enetering data in various systems for various needs
